Life on this earth is wounding.
Living through a world-wide pandemic, the horror of war, and the deepening of the climate crisis, during the information age, is challenging. Disillusionment, anxiety, and hopelessness are normal responses for people like you and me who are paying attention.
We can find calm amidst the storms.
There are more opportunities for wellness than ever before. The crazy juggernaut of the internet sprays healing as well as fear. We can care for ourselves and each other, build community, and heal a wounded world.
I’m no guide, but I will sit in your boat with you.
I know the healing power of sitting in silence, and listening without judgement. I know the liberation of sharing humiliation, the hopefulness of crawling out of a dark hole, and the restorative power of self-love. Also bandaids made of chocolate.
Share your story with me as I share mine with you, and let’s find out way with kindness, awareness and love. And humor. Because life is funny, even when you don’t want it to be.
Hello, I’m Amy.
I starred as Farrah Fawcett (as Jill Munroe) in my class's production of some random episode of Charlie's Angels, and then abruptly retired from both stage and screen. I was twelve years old.
I've been writing, building and maintaining websites since the dawn of time (which, interestingly, was the late 90s), working with entrepreneurs, pharmaceutical companies, and everyone in between. Wine purveyors! Pet food moguls*! Some guy with an elaborate site about paint! Shampoo too!
I once had a blog (in the 00s) which was listed as a fine example of the genre in a published book. Yes. Someone wrote (and a bunch of other someones published) a physical book which was a list of blogs and other useful websites. I guess Google hadn't been invented yet. Yes, I'm pre-Google. Yes, I still call it "the World Wide Web" in my head.
I adore social media, especially Twitter and Instagram, and have experienced joy and connectedness from friendships born and nurtured online. I can say with great affection and almost no regret that I never would have run a 30-hour team race nor (more importantly) pooped in a Porta Potty if I hadn't met my BFF in a random Yahoo group.
*The US Treasury came to talk to me about the pet food guy. He might be in federal prison but I promise that most of my friends do not end up incarcerated for money laundering on the internet. Speaking of which, I'm very interested in prison reform/abolition, employing formerly incarcerated people, and prison gardening/farming programs.
School-y stuff
I have a background in science (think rigor), training as a librarian (think research skills), have been a writer my entire life (think elementary school thesaurus reader), and once got confused for several days and joined my college water polo team.
I consider myself a modern-day Renaissance girl with less dancing and more poetry. If you have chickens, bees, composting worms, hermit crabs, or rabies I want to know.
